Maine

01 - We are a couple with a 6 year old boy living on a 26 acre, mostly forested piece of land in central Maine near Waterville and Skowhegan. We have a 34' X 38' garden and are looking to expand.

We used to grow all our food but have been too busy. We are looking for someone to help us with our garden. The apprentice is welcome to plant/do whatever they want for themselves as well. There are several farmer's markets in the area for outlets to sell. We would like to grow for our root cellar, (which we have plans to build this summer).

We have a 10' X 12' guest room in the back of our house on the first floor next to our son's room. Our house was built in the 90's. We are open to an apprentice living in an RV or yurt, etc., on our land with full access to our house, or, to living in the house with us.

We are on a spiritual path and experimenting with the raw food diet.

02 - We’re involved in these enterprises: a bakery, beekeeping, farm store, growing vegetables, a fiber shop, using horse power, raising organic meat (small animal meat production), animal husbandry, and butchering.

Apprentices will be involved in all of the above enterprises.

We need one or two apprentices from spring to late fall. We offer a yurt seasonally, and room and board.

We offer apprentices the opportunity to learn many skills.

03 - This is a gourmet “sourtop” wild, organic blueberry farm of 23 acres at 1700 feet in western Maine’s High Peaks region surrounded by a 230 acre woodlot.

Work to be done includes: harvesting, winnowing, freezing, drying, winemaking, product test-marketing, farmers’ markets, field maintenance, organic weed control experiments and some maintenance. We’re open to new ideas from self-motivated apprentices and are flexible to work with.

We’re looking for two to four apprentices from August 15th to September 15th, 2010, with payment based on amount of winnowed blueberries. We especially appreciate couples like Rachel and Ryan this past season (who would give us a reference).

Accommodations consist of an off-grid camp four miles from the farm by ATV, with hot and cold running water, septic system, refrigeration, cooking facilities, sleeping loft, a separate studio and a tent platform. Accommodations are upscale and the setting is remote.

Farm is near Appalachian Trail and Orbeton Stream with brook and brown trout fishing.
